Your ability to learn stands between you and your potential.
If only learning was easier.
Let's take a closer look ...
To concentrate, filter out distractions, and focus on a particular task for longer.
To hold onto information and recall it confidently when needed.
To listen, read, speak and write. For better academic, social and personal outcomes.
To push through the discomfort of learning, increase perseverance and build skills for life.
To learn anything, you need:
But some of us just don't have those skills - yet.
And even with speech therapy and/or
tutoring, many still struggle to learn.
Which takes a toll on
academic and social progress.
It also affects mental health.
Auditory processing disorder (APD) is behind
many learning challenges.
We often take our brains for granted. We don't realise how
hard our brain has to work so that we can learn.
First it has to filter out distractions so it can focus
It uses different types of memory to process and store information
Then it needs to make sense of words and attach meaning
People with APD can hear, but their brain doesn't process sound fast enough, so they may not understand everything you say. It also affects their ability to read and comprehend.
When learning, that can look like not being able to follow instructions, having more trouble learning to read than most of the other children and/or having social problems.
Modern brain research can help.
Brain research into learning and reading challenges really took off in the 1990s due to advancements in brain imaging, like fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging). Educational neuroscience is now a scientific field that brings together neuroscientists, cognitive psychologists, educators and linguists.
And they have discovered that the brain, at any age, is more like a muscle. So if you exercise it in the right way, you can actually make the neural pathways for learning in your brain stronger, or faster.
If that sounds interesting to you, then I hope you don't mind if I introduce myself.
My name is Monique and not that long ago, I was so worried about my son's learning that I spent my sleepless nights searching for the next thing that could help him.
The book, The Brain That Changes Itself by Dr Norman Doidge introduced me to the latest brain research in 2012. And since 2015, I have supported many families with online programs that have physically changed the brain's ability to learn. First with a Sydney speech pathologist, and from 2018, serving the children, teens, adults and seniors of greater western Sydney who want to improve their ability to learn, read and communicate.
My mission is to increase awareness of auditory processing disorder and the role it plays in learning challenges. And of course, the science and technology that can help.
It's reassuring that speech pathologists and schools around the world have trusted this technology for more than 20 years. That's more that 3 million students, in 15,000 schools, with more than 250,000 teachers, in more than 50 countries!
Would you like to get to know me and my mission a bit better by watching these two short videos?
Sue, NSW March 2022
"He’s more self aware, more confident in himself, more determined to get his homework done straight away.
I’m so glad I found this programme, it was money well spent!"
Jen, NSW Aug 2020
"Not only has he been able to keep up across all areas academically, he has also gained confidence and now enjoys the learning process. It makes our heart sing to watch my son literally jump with joy as he is dropped off at school every morning."
Rachel, VIC, Oct 2020
"Despite COVID and an unbelievably long lockdown, she's in a far better place now than she was 18 months ago - so thank you for helping with that."
